Teen Driver Involved in Deadly Collision on SR-56

According to multiple news agencies, the California Highway Patrol has stated that an 18-year-old man from San Diego who was involved in a fatal accident that happened in Rancho Peñasquitos is now being held by the authorities.

The reports indicate that the teen was driving a Land Rover when the vehicle went out of control for unknown reasons. While still on the eastbound lanes of the state Route 56, the vehicle drove over the median and into the oncoming traffic where a westbound vehicle crashed head-on against the Land Rover.

The 22-year-old driver in the westbound vehicle was declared dead at the scene.

According to one account, the 22-year-old driver was on his way to a funeral of a friend at the time of the accident. The 18-year-old was sent to he hospital as a result of the accident.

At this moment, the crash is under investigation to determine exactly what factors led to the collision.
